Co-creation and User Perspectives for Upper Limb Prosthetics

نویسندگان

چکیده

People who either use an upper limb prosthesis and/or have used services provided by a prosthetic rehabilitation centre, experience limitations of currently available devices. Collaboration between academia and broad range stakeholders, can lead to the development solutions that address peoples' needs. By doing so, rate device abandonment decrease. Co-creation is approach enable collaboration this nature occur throughout research process. We present findings co-creation project gained user perspectives from survey, subsequent workshop involving: people experienced care (users), academics, industry experts, charity executives, clinicians. The survey invited users prioritise six themes, which academia, clinicians, should focus on over next decade. prioritisation themes concluded in following order, with first as most important: function, psychology, aesthetics, clinical service, collaboration, media. Within five multi-stakeholder groups, participants discussed challenges collaborative opportunities for each theme. Workshop groups prioritised based their discussions, highlight further development. Two chose one group another identified are presented within context including importance transparent information flow all stakeholders; involvement studies; routes informing healthcare policy through collaboration. As field prosthetics moves toward in-home research, we facilitate duration such studies.

Progressive upper limb prosthetics.

The field of upper extremity prosthetics is a constantly changing arena as researchers and prosthetists strive to bridge the gap between prosthetic reality and upper limb physiology. With the further development of implantable neurologic sensing devices and targeted muscle innervation (discussed elsewhere in this issue), the challenge of limited input to control vast outputs promises to become ...

Sensory feedback in upper limb prosthetics.

One of the challenges facing prosthetic designers and engineers is to restore the missing sensory function inherit to hand amputation. Several different techniques can be employed to provide amputees with sensory feedback: sensory substitution methods where the recorded stimulus is not only transferred to the amputee, but also translated to a different modality (modality-matched feedback), whic...

Upper limb prosthetics for high level arm amputation.

The paper covers the analysis of residual stump and upper body motions and their involvement in the patients' manipulatory functions. Attention is given to prosthetic techniques that do not restrict the residual motions. A single cable controlled hybrid arm prosthesis is presented with different individual cases. The kinetic structure and the control of prosthesis vary in each case to meet the ...
